…a quick post about a little baby + kids fair The Crafty Prawn rocked up at – my 1st one in fact – back in October. Now a bit settled in my new home of Bristol, I thought I should start as I mean to go on, so took the leap to venture out of my online etsy land and into the big wide world of fairs. Baby, kids and their parentals came in their hoards to the Little Seeds Fair in Southville, Bristol and it ’twas a great trial run for BIGGER + BETTER fairs and markets in the future…
…and ever so much thanks to my lovely fella who actually built my stand, helped with so many things, puts up with all my fabric and sewing related dramas, pretends to be interested in quilts, keeps me sane and kept me company all day at this fair…xx
The Crafty Prawn will be at the Made in Bristol GIFT Fair @ Colston Hall on the 13th December this year!
(woo yey, hip hip, I hear you cry…)
GIFT brings the best of the region’s designer-makers to the heart of the city for a festive shopping showcase of creative talent. Located over four floors and featuring more than 100 designers, the Gift Fair is a vast emporium of unique handmade gifts.

After a little flurry of personalised name-bunting orders just before christmas, I thought I would share my backlog of bunting snaps…
…a sophisticated grey, red, navy and baby-blue palette for baby Hudson in Indiana, USA.
Colours chosen specially to co-ordinate with Hudson’s bedding with a smidge of checked red linen in there too as this was also used in the current bedding. Want to see pictures in more detail? click here.
…a juicy combo of sunny yellow, emerald green and royal blue for little Leo in Utah, USA
I ordered a special fabric for this one on the customers request – called ‘Delft..the city i love so well!’ by Bora (Deborah van de Leijgraaf) – and believe it or not was designed here in The Netherlands; printed in America by Spoonflower.com; and promptly shipped to Rotterdam where it was used in a lovely length of The Crafty Prawn bunting; only to be popped back in the post to the USA to be hung in Leo’s nursery. Amazing eh?! Want to see pictures in more detail? click here.
…and finally, a very special one for my little nephew Finley’s 1st birthday, in Bristol, UK!!!
Made in funky rainbow colours to match Finn’s quilt, this name bunting is extra long – for a special nephew after all – and features a bold selection of graphic fabrics, with red letters for contrast! Rainbow name-bunting will soon be available in The Crafty Prawn shop…very soon. Want to see pictures in more detail? click here.

NEW FOR 2014…Prawn’s Picks
So new year, new things! Introducing a new little monthly feature for The Crafty Prawn blog where I shall be sharing some pickings of some of my favourite handmade finds, hand-crafted whats-its, designy stuff and things-that-take-my-fancy! Enjoy.
Prawns Picks #1…A little bit about Eja Ejovna…a lovely little Etsy shop run by Anna from Kharkiv in the Ukraine. Filled with a sweet collection of jewellery including handmade crocheted nursing necklaces, vintage-style trinketty goodies and some very cute patterned cabochon earrings!
I love Anna’s style of photography and great use of backgrounds with her product photos, which really compliments the delicate colours and textures…
So I will let the photos speak for themselves.
*Please note: particularly funky use of a fish book…I think my favourites are the earrings – beautiful understated shots……you can find the Eja Ejonvna shop here

I’ve been holding out on posting this little beauty for a while now as it was a Christmas present and I didn’t want to spoil the surprise (Merry Christmas by the way)! But I thought that now we’re floating through the in-betweeny limbo week between Christmas and the New Year, I’d take the opportunity to tell you about one very special pug-on-a-bike cushion!
This cushion cover was commissioned as a gift for my Californian friend John, by his lovely Mum, earlier in the year. Created as something for John to remember his time in Rotterdam once he’d moved onto pastures new in the US and beyond! As a passionate cyclist and pug owner, this is what we came up with!
We’ve got an appliqued blue bike, complete with polka dot tyres with hand-embroidered spokes and mud-guards; a running stitch dirt-trail adorned with personalised hand-embroidered text; and the crowning glory of this very special pug-on-a-bike cushion…the PUG. She’s called Nora by the way and based on a real Nora the pug!
This little hand drawn illustration has been translated onto the fabric through delicate hand-embroidery, making this cushion truly one of a kind! She has a little pink tongue, fat rolls and a quizzical expression…very like Nora the real pug!
The background fabric for the cushion cover is beautifully soft oatmeal linen and the back fabric is a gorgeous bike printed mustard linen by the japanese fabric designers Echino. I’ve used a zip opening instead of my usual buttons as I didn’t want to disrupt the beautiful bikes travelling across the reverse!
All my cushions come fully lined, with any raw internal edges finished with a tight zigzag stitch and a special ‘The Crafty Prawn’ fabric label for that extra professional finish.
Have a look at my ‘ready-to-ship’ cushions here, or if you’d like to commission your own special one-of-a-kind personalised cushion with an embroidered pet of your choice (!) then just drop me a message at firstname.lastname@example.org
