Dusky Pink, Teal + Muted Tone Quilt for a Bronwin Bub

So despite the lack of quilt related posts, I have actually been lucky enough to be asked to make quite a few ‘Crafty Prawn Custom-Made Quilts’ this year. I’ve neglected blogging about them which results in them just sitting on my computer, hiding away like shrinking violets. So here’s #1…

A dusky pink, teal and muted tonal quilt – in a random patch layout – made especially for a little Bronwin bub.
I love making things for lovely families I know – makes it all the more special!
005_smlOriginally inspired by a cushion featuring William Morris’ Strawberry Thief print in a muted colourway, I put together a stylish, sophisticated but playful palette of vintage, new and collected plains, tones and patterns. There’s even a little bit of William Morris fabric thrown in – well, what would you expect for a quilt destined for a beautiful house in Islington, London!
With personalised custom hand embroidery in the form of the new bub’s full name and birthdate AND a little message from her doting aunties and uncle, this quilt is a total one off!blog-01 In an all over random-patch layout, with a teal polka dot binding and border around the hand-embroidered panels; and a subtle oatmeal pinstripe linen on the reverse.

Thank you Bronwins for asking me to make your newest family member a little quilt.
And here she is snuggled up in it…

Crafty Prawn @ Little Seeds…October 2014

141012_Little Seeds Fair (1)_sml…a quick post about a little baby + kids fair The Crafty Prawn rocked up at – my 1st one in fact – back in October. Now a bit settled in my new home of Bristol, I thought I should start as I mean to go on, so took the leap to venture out of my online etsy land and into the big wide world of fairs. Baby, kids and their parentals came in their hoards to the Little Seeds Fair in Southville, Bristol and it ’twas a great trial run for BIGGER + BETTER fairs and markets in the future…
illustrator template for etsy listings-01…and ever so much thanks to my lovely fella who actually built my stand, helped with so many things, puts up with all my fabric and sewing related dramas, pretends to be interested in quilts, keeps me sane and kept me company all day at this fair…xx

A selection of some of the custom and personalised handkerchief orders I’ve been busy with since April this year…
…the simple little hanky has been quite a hit on the ‘ol Etsy after being given a Crafty Prawn re-vamp.

I use a range of new, vintage and up-cycled fabrics to create modern and striking double-sided cotton hankies…
…which can then be personalised with either initials (1, 2 or 3)
OR
get creative and personalise with any message, inscription or memorable date…

Where have I been…

…and where has the past 4 months gone! Here’s a little run down.   .   .

We left our sunny Spring-time beloved Rotterdam, beloved Albert in tow, but I shall always leave a bit of my heart at that salmon-walled flat on Van Cittersstraat…the move-01-01…needless to say – it was raining and overcast when we got to Wales. But I was still pleased to see the hills.
Life in a Europcar van right there…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Had a bit of a mooch about in the hills in Wales, with nephews and nieces and wheelbarrows…
…temporarily claimed my poor p-rents conservatory as The Crafty Prawn’s studio space…
…missed my Albert cat, but replacement waggy-tailed studio assistants made up for it…
home mooch-01…proceeded to make rather a lot of hankies and quilts – more about that later…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Went to beautiful Greece…
…hung out with the goats – got beaten up by sea anemones…
…lived in a tent and a boat…got caught in a scary storm…
greece-01…didn’t manage to brown up them legs…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
…and now we live in Bristol. more on that to follow.
